Kobayashi’s Jaw Gives Out

While training, competitive eater Takeru Kobayashi developed jaw arthritis. So it looks like someone else will win Nathan’s 4th of July competition at Coney Island this year.
Just like any athlete, when you are injured, you probably should sit it out. Kobayashi’s mother died earlier this year and he says he is still going to try to compete in her honor. A noble cause, no doubt. But he could really hurt himself if he pushes it too far.
When you make your lively hood by shoving hot dogs down your throat, you shouldn’t mess with your mouth or jaw.
I wish him the best of luck. He will need it. He was once untouchable, but there are several who have no other goal other than to beat him.
