Unsigned.com is a relatively new avenue for independent bands to easily market and promote themselves. Best of all- it is free!

Independent bands need all of the exposure that they can get to build their fan base. Free ways to market and promote are even better!

Bands or solo artists can create a profile and upload music (the music plays in a Flash based player), post a bio, post contact info, upload photos, and update a calendar of their upcoming shoes/appearances. Their profile is also tagged with genres of music and their location.

Unsigned bands looking for musicians or instruments or musicians looking for a band can utilize unsigned.com’s classifieds.

Non-artist, referred to as “Music Fans”, can also create a profile on unsigned.com. The layout of the fan profile is similar to the band profile (location info, bio, photos). Instead of a music player, a listing of recently played songs is featured.

Fans have the ability to create a personal library of the music featured on unsigned.com. The music streams through the flash player. The player features a playlist editor that allows you to organize your library as you wish (song order, genre, etc.) You also have the option of streaming the ‘most played’ songs on the site.

I played around on the site for quite some time. It is very intuitive. Navigation was easy to find and understand. I found several bands that I am familiar with from the local scene on there. Also played around with other search features and I was quite impressed.

I’m no longer in the music scene, but if my old band was still together, Unsigned.com would definitely be one place that we would have our information on. Free. Easy to use. Exposure to local fans. Easy way for new fans to discover you. Great little site.
