Design your own shirts on bluecotton.com
BlueCotton (bluecotton.com) allows you to create customized shirts via an interactive Flash based interface. If you are in need of custom christian t-shirts or custom t-shirts for an event for a fraternity or another club, their site is one to check-out.
When you access their design studio, it loads fairly quickly and also takes up most of the screen on a standard sized monitor. A large white t-shirt is in the middle of the screen. To the left is a menu bar with your options (text, clipart, shapes, distressing effects, upload your own images, personalized names/numbers, and an idea browser).
For my review, I’m going to design a TambuLounge.com shirt. I could upload my own images, but I really want to stick to using their available tools to see what I can do. Most people will depend on the provided assets more than using their own.
I selected a long sleeve t-shirt. I was impressed with the shirt selection – regular t-shirts are available, but so are sweats, athletic, polos, and aprons.
I’m going to start with the clipart. Several categories are available in a “book”. A search is also available. I typed in “tiki” and 5 options appeared. This is good. I selected a pretty standard tiki image- it is actually an Orchids of Hawaii mug (probably the most common mug there is). The image opened as line art. A tool bar for the colors (outline, fill, and highlight) and a tool bar for precise sizing/placement controls opened. There are also little anchor pulls around the image so you can size it yourself. There aren’t very many colors to choose from, but I made due.
I then added the distressed effect to make it look old.
Added “TambuLounge.com” to it as well. Again, lots of different fonts available. Found one that kinda matched what I was looking for and went with it. Colors and effects are available for the text too. I added an outline to mine and increased the thickness.
Overall the design studio was easier to use. Much easier to use than I anticipated. The variety of existing clipart and fonts also really impressed me. Most “custom design your own” sites do not have much of a selection and really limit the user.
I’d say give this a try if you are in need of designing your own apparel for an event or just for fun. BlueCotton.com
